Project Bid Awarded
We wanted to provide you an update on the Johnston REC remodeling project and the proposed construction timeline. The bid opening for the Johnston REC Phase One project was held on September 9. The Agency was pleased with the interest shown by construction contractors for the project and the competitiveness at the bid opening. Twelve general contractors bid on the project, and the lowest responsible bidder recommended to the Heartland Board of Directors was Ruepke Construction of Derby, Iowa, with a base bid of $780,000. This recommendation was approved at the Board of Directors meeting on September 14.
This week, FRK, the Agency’s architectural firm, will execute contracts with Ruepke Construction and ensure all insurance requirements are met. A pre-construction meeting has been scheduled for September 28 with the contractor. In addition, a 6500 Planning Committee meeting has been scheduled for October 13 to provide construction updates and discuss communication options for staff.
Reminder: Check Your Meeting Locations
Because of the remodeling project, meetings previously scheduled for some of the rooms in Johnston REC have been moved to new locations. Please check the Internal Calendar in Kerio before coming to meetings in Johnston to verify the location of your meeting. The Agency will be using Zion Lutheran and St. Mary’s Churches in Des Moines and the Johnston Lion’s Club as well as other off-site meeting locations during the remodeling. If you are the organizer of a meeting, please help by notifying participants of site changes.
