Reminder: Help the Business Office Close Out the 2015 Fiscal Year

Heartland AEA’s fiscal year will end June 30, 2015. As part of our year-end process, we need to have all online expense claims and overnight travel claims, for expenses occurring on or before June 30, 2015, turned in to the Business Office by July 8, 2015.

IMPORTANT: If extenuating circumstances cause a delay in submitting expenses related to fiscal year 2015, August 31 is the last date the Business Office will accept and process any claims for expenses occurring on or before June 30, 2015.

Please contact Brian Whalen, Business Manager, at bwhalen@heartlandaea.org or ext. 14005 if you have questions.

Summer Educator Connection Newsletter Sent Last Week

33 School Districts Added to Iowa's Teacher Leadership System

Thirty-three new school districts have been accepted into the state system, bringing the total number of districts in the teacher leadership system to 198. The 33 new districts were accepted through a one-time opportunity for districts whose plans missed the minimum score in the last round to re-apply. The 33 new districts will implement their teacher leadership plans in the 2016-17 school year.

Official Agency Hours and Summer Flex Hours

Official Agency Hours
The official agency hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Supervisors may schedule staff outside of these hours to meet the unique coverage needs of each work area.

Flexible Scheduling
Employees will be allowed to request reconsideration of their scheduled hours on the first day of March, June, September and December. Supervisors shall be responsible to ensure that modified schedules will not result in reduction in services to clients. In regional offices, office hours are set by the regional directors based on the needs of the region. Regional directors will schedule staff accordingly and will communicate their office hours to their districts, their staff and the Agency receptionist. Staff members should discuss any questions about flex hours with their supervisor.

Summer Flex Hours
Summer flex hours are available this summer from Monday, June 8, 2015 to Friday, August 7, 2015, with regular scheduling resuming on Monday, August 10, 2015. During this period, supervisors may approve summer flex hours between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. With supervisor approval the 60-minute lunch break may be shortened to 30 minutes. When considering approval of summer flex hours, priority will be placed on coverage of work functions over staff preference. Therefore, there may be some variation of individual schedules within or across workgroups. Staff members should discuss any questions about summer flex hours with their supervisor.

Summer Van Delivery to Begin June 15

During the summer, Heartland vans will deliver twice a week to each district administration office and each year-round school from June 15 to August 6. Regular van delivery will resume August 10.

AEA Legislative Update

Each week during the Iowa legislative session, we will bring you an AEA Legislative Update from the AEA system’s lobbyists, Tom Lane, Matt Eide and John Pederson.
