Updated Schedule for “Chat with the Chief” Sessions

A schedule for upcoming “Chat with the Chief” sessions was in last week’s Connection. These sessions will be non-mandatory open forum-style meetings with no formal presentation. They are an opportunity for you to talk with me about anything and everything.

We have added an additional more chat session for Region 8 to help accommodate their staff not located out of the Newton office. This session will be on February 11 in Altoona. We’ve also had to reschedule Region 8’s chat session on February 28 due to a scheduling issue. It has been rescheduled for February 13.

If you aren’t able to attend the session that is in your region, you are welcome to attend in another region. I look forward to seeing those of you who are able to fit one of the chat sessions into your busy schedule. If you aren’t able to participate in any of the sessions but have input to share, please feel free to e-mail it to me at pvincent@aea11.k12.ia.us

Tax Withholding in General and for Addendum/Overtime Pay

Tax filing season is a good time to review the amount of federal and state income tax you are having withheld from your paycheck. Have you had any major life changes, e.g., gotten married, had a child, purchased a home, experienced your spouse beginning or stopping work, etc.? Your income tax withholding can be adjusted at any time through Tax Information in the Tax Status section of Employee Online (available via your Employee Dashboard). You can model the impact of your tax withholding changes on your net pay by using the What If calculator under the Pay Check section under the Employee Online tab.

The What If calculator can also be used to model your net pay and tax withholding resulting from changes in your pay or if you receive addendum or overtime pay. Simply enter the gross salary you want to model and click submit. It’s that easy.

If you have questions regarding tax withholding, withholding changes or the What If calculator, contact Steve Jordan, Senior Payroll Specialist, at sjordan@aea11.k12.ia.us or ext. 14908.

Time to Sign up to be a Mentor—Advise a New Staff Member in 2013-14!

It’s time to sign up for mentoring for certified staff for the 2013-14 school year! Mentoring not only benefits the mentee but the mentor, too. As a mentor, you’ll benefit by:
  • Knowing that you’re helping others learn and work to achieve their goals.
  • Improving your personal development and skills. You may be mentoring a person from a different generation or a different culture. This can help you learn to communicate in a different manner.
  • Learning new information and approaches. As a mentor, you’ll learn from the person you’re mentoring, sometimes just because that person’s outlook is fresh.
  • Helping create long-term employees.
  • Receiving a payment of $1,000 (gross) (in two $500 payments) for providing 15 hours of one-on-one coaching and support for your mentee.
If you would like to become a mentor, please complete the Mentor Application and return it to Carolyn Jones, Human Resources Assistant, by February 25. If you are picked to be a mentor, more information will be provided at a later date.

If you are currently a mentor and would like to continue mentoring next year, you must reapply.

The Mentor Application and Program Guide are available on the Intranet > Human Resources > Mentoring Program and by clicking here.
