Government Reorganization Bill Update
Work continues on the language of the Government Reorganization bill (SF 2088) that impacts AEAs, but nothing has been finalized. The latest language we have seen proposes:
• a study of the AEA system by the Department of Education
• more prescriptive membership for AEA boards of directors
• the formation of a committee to develop “performance goals” to go along with the existing AEA accreditation standards
• collaboration of the AEAs with the DE to develop a statewide infrastructure for educational data
The Iowa Senate is scheduled to debate the bill today. The AEA chief administrators continue to work with Brent Siegrist, Director of State AEA Services, Wayne Haddy, AEA Government Relations Specialist, and our legislators to address these issues. I will continue to bring updates to you via The Connection and/or agency e-mail if necessary.

HEART Update
By the time you read this, we hope that a new version of HEART is up and running. The installation has been a little rocky. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the delays in the upgrade. There are several significant changes to the system. Heartland staff may want to be aware of these changes, both for their own use, and to support any issues that may arise in our schools.
A temporary web page has been set up to download an overview of changes and an updated HEART administrator’s manual. In addition, this page contains directions and supports for preparing to import DIBELS data into HEART. This link will remain active until the Agency’s new website development is completed. Click the link below to access the temporary download page.
