Government Reorganization Bill Update
Work continues on the language of the Government Reorganization bill (SF 2088) that impacts AEAs, but nothing has been finalized. The latest language we have seen proposes:
• a study of the AEA system by the Department of Education
• more prescriptive membership for AEA boards of directors
• the formation of a committee to develop “performance goals” to go along with the existing AEA accreditation standards
• collaboration of the AEAs with the DE to develop a statewide infrastructure for educational data
The Iowa Senate is scheduled to debate the bill today. The AEA chief administrators continue to work with Brent Siegrist, Director of State AEA Services, Wayne Haddy, AEA Government Relations Specialist, and our legislators to address these issues.
