New Regions to Meet This Spring

Plans are underway for a brief meeting in our new regional configurations. Regional Directors for each of the eight new regions will be sending an invitation to staff assigned in the region to come together before the end of the school year to make introductions and begin working together as a new team. We will publish the meeting dates, times and locations when they are known.

U.S. Cellular Iowa Discount: Check the Expiration Date

From the Iowa Educators Consortium (IEC): It has been brought to our attention that any State of Iowa employee (teachers, administrators and school support staff) taking advantage of the discount on personal cell phone plans with U.S. Cellular may need to renew or ‘re-apply’ for the discount (PED1008) every two years. In other words, the discount automatically falls off the customer’s account after two years from the original sign-up date. At that time, anyone wishing to continue receiving the discount will need to follow the same application procedure as they did originally, via the www.uscellular.com/partner website or calling U.S. Cellular’s customer service line at (800) 819-9373.

Below is an excerpt of the terms and conditions for the PED program, as provided by U.S. Cellular:

Terms and Conditions:
“Consumer Single Line Plans of $49.95 and higher and Family Plans of $69.95 and higher are eligible. New 2-year agreement required for customers on new lines of service or not on Belief Plans. Discount will only be applied to the monthly charge for your chosen plan. Discount not available on Wireless Modem, Data or any other service plans. Discount not available on equipment or accessories. U.S. Cellular may require that you provide proof of your employment. If you are no longer an employee of the eligible organization or if the organization is no longer a business customer of U.S. Cellular, U.S. Cellular reserves the right to remove any discount that has been applied to your account without notice. Customer must re-apply or verify employment every two years. All terms and conditions of the U.S. Cellular Customer Service Agreement apply to your participation in this program. The discount will be applied to your account within 1-2 billing cycles.”

At this time, we would also like to remind you that this specific discount is brought to you by the State of Iowa’s Department of Administrative Services (DAS). The program is in no part obtained via the IEC. Our role with this is to simply make schools/AEAs aware of the fact that the discount exists and that they are eligible to take advantage of it. The IEC has no control whatsoever over the terms and conditions of the discount and agreement.

Grant Wood & Keystone AEAs Hire New Chief Administrators

The Grant Wood AEA Board of Directors is pleased to announce the selection of a new chief administrator for the Agency. Joe Crozier, currently the Chief Administrator for Great Prairie AEA, was selected from a field of nine applicants. Crozier will succeed Ron Fielder, who is retiring and has been Chief Administrator at the Agency since 1987.

Crozier has held educational administrative positions in Iowa for the last 24 years. He became the chief administrator of Great River AEA in 2002. When the chief for Southern Prairie AEA retired in 2003, Crozier became the chief administrator of that agency as well. In 2007 the two AEAs merged, and he was named the chief administrator for the merged AEA now known as Great Prairie.

Prior to his work in the AEA system, Crozier was the superintendent of schools for Central Lee Community School District in Donnellson, Iowa. Crozier has served in several state and national leadership positions. He was the president of the national Association of Education Service Agencies in 2009-10 and president of School Administrators of Iowa in 2006-07.

Keystone AEA is pleased to announce that Gary Stumberg, currently Keystone AEA’s Director of Administrative Services, has been selected as the Agency’s new Chief Administrator. Stumberg will succeed Dr. Robert Vittengl, who is retiring and has been Keystone’s Chief Administrator since 2001.

Prior to being hired at Keystone AEA, Stumberg held positions as superintendent of the Starmont, Garnavillo and MarMac community school districts; principal at Garnavillo as well as teaching positions at C-W-L and Dows community schools.
Crozier and Stumberg will assume their new positions effective July 1, 2011.
