We recently received word that the Agency’s Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP) has been approved by the Iowa Department of Education. Click here to view the Agency’s plan.

Heartland AEA’s New Mission Statement and Goals

As was communicated at the All Staff meeting, the Agency has adopted a new mission statement and goals. Please use the following language if stating the mission and goals in any of your publications, correspondence, presentations, etc. This information is also available on the intranet under Communications>Communication Resources & Publications. Click here for the hand out that was given at the All Staff meeting which also displays the new information.

Mission Statement

To provide essential services and leadership, in partnership with families, schools and communities, that improve the learning outcomes and well being of all children and youth.

Agency Goals

Increase learning growth for students as measured by number of districts/schools demonstrating growth in student performance.

Decrease the gap in achievement between students in underperforming groups and all students (underperforming groups include students with disabilities, English Language Learners, students living in poverty and all racial/ethnic groups).

Increase in annual graduation rates until all districts are at 100 percent.

Increase core preparation rate of high school graduates until all students meet gateways for post-secondary education/career success.

SSLog on Hold Until Further Notice

As we align our work to the Agency’s new direction, we are evaluating the best way to collect data about how we deliver services. As a result, staff are not required to enter data into SSLog until further notice.

Updated Procedural Safeguards Manual for Parents Now Available

Click here for the 2011-2012 Procedural Safeguards Manual for Parents. The manual is also available to download off the Heartland AEA website. First go to the Educators tab on the front page. Click on the Special Education link and then click on the link named, “Resources”. The manual is the fourth attachment listed on the resources page. All previous versions of the manual should be discarded or archived.

If you require hard copies, your office secretary will be able to order the manual through WebCRD later this week. The manual will be available in the “Shared Files” section of WebCRD which all support staff should have access to. The manual can be found with a word search for “Procedural Safeguards Manual.” We hope to have the manual available in WebCRD by Wednesday.

Iowa Future: Tools to Spark Education Reform Conversations

Iowa must begin to look ahead to provide what’s best for today’s students, not back at how things used to be. That’s why we need innovation in Iowa education: to help all students realize success and possess the knowledge and skills so they will be ready for their tomorrow, not our yesterday.

The Iowa Future website is an effort to explain the need for educational innovation and provide videos, discussion guides, presentation templates, testimonials, links to other great resources and more. Take some time to check out the site at http://www.iowafuture.org/ to see what information
and resources are available.

The "Did You Know?” video has been a popular discussion starter and meeting opener over the last few years. It was shown to administrators at the SAI conference earlier this month and has been on popular demand. Often used in context of technology innovation, education and 21st century learners, the video is just one of the many resources available on the Iowa Future website. Watch the video at http://www.iowafuture.org/2011/08/04/iowa-did-you-know/ and consider using the accompanying discussion guide to begin an in-depth conversation with your educator groups.
