Attention Staff Who Work in Schools: Required Chapter 103 Training

The State Board of Education amended Chapter 103 in November 2008. This contains Iowa’s administrative rules on corporal punishment, seclusion and restraint. As you may remember, last winter during office meetings, staff members were introduced to the Chapter 103 changes and various trainings since that time have also discussed the changes.

Training requirements for school (including AEA) staff were added to the amended rule. Because of this, all Heartland staff who provide services in schools need to complete the training. Staff members who serve early childhood alone need to participate if they work in preschools run by school districts. Early ACCESS services and private preschools are not included in the 103 regulations. If you have a question regarding if you are required to participate in the training, please contact your supervisor.

We have pulled together state resources for your review and have put them into a Moodle module. Moodle is a web-based professional learning tool. This module will guide you through our 103 resources then lead you to a quiz you will be required to pass.
Click here to download instructions for accessing Moodle.

Again, any Heartland staff member who does or could plausibly provide services in a school needs to complete this training.

This training is required to be completed by Wednesday, March 10. If you have questions, please contact Sarah Brown at ext. 14380 or sbrown@aea11.k12.ia.us.
