Clarifications About Agency Professional Learning Process

As workgroups start planning their professional learning this year, the Agency Professional Learning Committee is excited to offer you some clarification regarding the process it will be using. The following are answers to questions the committee has received. It is the committee’s intent to keep this process simple and clear. If you have any other questions, please contact Sharon Kurns, Director of Professional Learning & Leadership, at skurns@aea11.k12.ia.us or ext. 14362.

Questions and Answers
Q: How will my workgroup come to consensus?

A: Workgroup facilitators were provided with decision-making processes that can be used to help groups come to consensus when they’re making decisions.

Q: If a workgroup really struggles with decision-making, what can members do?

A: If your workgroup cannot make decisions regarding your professional learning plan, you may contact Sharon Kurns, and she will assign a member of the Agency-Wide Professional Development Committee to assist.

Q: How will my workgroup committee determine who goes to conferences when everyone needs the information?

A: When workgroups determine that a specific opportunity will provide information the workgroup staff will benefit from, the facilitator of the group has been provided with several considerations. For example:

• Everyone should have the opportunity to submit that they are interested in attending.

• The committee should consider equity across agency regions.

• The committee should consider the volunteers’ ability to go to conferences in the past.

• The ability and willingness to share the information with others who were not able to attend.

• Develop a plan for how the information is brought back. Again, this will allow for the information to be disseminated to all workgroup members.

Q: Do domain days go on the template and are they part of the plan?

A: Yes.
