LifeWorks EAP Spotlight: Addictions

It is common for people to overdo things from time to time—eating too many sweets or going on a shopping spree. But if you find yourself repeatedly engaging in an activity that has a negative effect on your health or well-being or both, you may be struggling with some type of addictive behavior.

Being addicted to a self-destructive behavior can be similar to being addicted to drugs or alcohol—it can have severe consequences and cause your life to fall apart. That's why it’s important to seek help as soon as you suspect you might have a problem. Sometimes people can stop the unhealthy behavior on their own. In other cases, help from a mental health professional or support group may be needed.
