Sound booths used to test the hearing of babies and young children will soon be installed in the Johnston Regional Education Center (6500 building) and the Knoxville Regional Office. There is currently a sound booth in the Woodside office, and that booth will close in conjunction with the Woodside office closing at the end of June. The installation of booths in the Johnston and Knoxville offices will provide parents access to hearing testing facilities across Heartland’s regions. Sound booths are also located in the Guthrie Center, Indianola and Ames offices, and Heartland staff members perform hearing tests in the sound booth at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
The sound booth in the Johnston office will be placed where the current Conference Room 7 is on the west side of the building. A small waiting room for families will be constructed and two parking spots outside the west door will be reserved for parents who have a sound booth appointment.
The timeline for the sound booth construction at both offices is scheduled as follows:
• April 12 – Project update to Board of Directors
• April 28 – Pre-bid conference
• May 5 – Bid letting
• May 11 – Public hearing, plans and specifications review and action at Board of Directors meeting
• May 24 – Construction begins
• June 25 – Construction completion
During the construction period, staff members can expect normal inconveniences associated with any remodel such as dust, noise and temporary relocation of staff who work in the immediate area. We will work hard to minimize these disruptions during the construction phase.
