CPR for Students with IEPs

As part of the requirements of the Healthy Kids Act, all students are required to complete a CPR class prior to graduation. This includes students with IEPs. If a student is physically unable to perform CPR, school administrators should excuse the student from doing so. The requirement is mandated only for “physically able” students and determining who is physically able is left to the judgment of local school officials. When the CPR requirement is waived for a student with an IEP who is physically unable to perform CPR, the waiver of the requirement should be noted on page B of the IEP under Course of Study.
